In Honor of Melissa Gulledge |
Hi, my son was one of Melissa's
kids. In the attached
photo you'll see her and Gage in 2003. She worked for AIDB
and was his service coordinator. He was born deaf and now has a
cochlear implant and so does his sister. Melissa not only helped my son
but she helped shape my whole attitude as a parent of children with
disabilities. She always felt that the kids deserved
everything the typical kid deserves, and she showed me how to make sure
they get just that. I actually just finished a book due out soon with
one of Melissa's AIDB colleagues. I'll email you again when this
becomes available to the public but we actually have a Memorial on one
of the first few pages where we write a short message about Melissa, as
another source for her to "live on". I think what you are doing is
great, she would really appreciate it. I was also pleased to have had
some email contact with her in the past year where I sent her the link
(listed below) to my webpage so she can hear how Gage's speech has
developed. No one ever knows he's deaf unless I tell them!
